Your first stop is the Takayama Morning Market along the Miyagawa River, where you’ll explore stalls filled with fresh produce, local crafts, and tasty snacks. This market offers a glimpse into local life as you interact with vendors, taste seasonal fruits, and possibly find a unique souvenir.
Next, step into history at Takayama Jinya, a well-preserved Edo-period government building. Here, you’ll explore rooms, courtyards, and gardens that reflect the political and social dynamics of the era, offering an insightful look into Japan’s past.
Afterward, enjoy lunch at Hisadaya, where you will try Hida Beef Hoba Miso, which is a dish you will rarely find outside of Takayama. Your last is at Sakurayama Hashimangu, the most important Shinto shrine in Takayama and the starting point of the Takayama Autumn Festival.
