The Japanese have made the packing of lunch boxes into an art form by creating unique Character Bento boxes out of a wide variety of healthy and delicious ingredients.
During this Character Bento Experience, you will create cute, unique, and seasonal characters that come to life in your lunch box (a Bento box and Furoshiki wrapping cloth are included in the experience). Almost too cute to be devoured after.

Junko and Chinatsu offer “Character Bento Box = Chara-Ben” cooking classes that represent the four seasons of Japan: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Make a cute and delicious Bento. Take a photo to impress your family and friends with your instagrammable Chara-ben!
Junko or Chinatsu will pick you up at Exit 7 above the ground of the Sakurayama Subway Station. It’s a two minutes walk to our cooking studio.
Enjoy green tea while getting to know one another and the day’s schedule.
Junko and Chinatsu will explain about Chara-Ben through pictures.
Put on your apron and start cooking. First prepare lots of side dishes, these will be used to decorate the main character.
Out of rice give the main character a face and body, then give it features using ingredients such as cheese, and seaweed.
Put everything together in a Bento box (which you get to take home with you wrapped in a beautiful Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth). Let your creativity flow to create your own unique Chara-Ben.
Even though the cute Chara-Ben you made might be almost too cute to eat, it’s time to taste your delicious lunch box. But before you devour it, don’t forget to take a lot of photos!
Your hosts will walk you back to Sakurayama Station and say goodbye there.
