What You'll Do

We will teach you how to wear a Kimono or Yukata with the item you have at home. Let’s make it possible to wear a Kimono or Yukata that you have at home but don’t know how to wear.

When you make a reservation, we will send you an email with a PDF file that you can reference to check if you have all the necessary items to wear your Kimono or Yukata.

Please reply with a set of photos of your Kimono or Yukata and all items that you own needed for wearing the garment.

We will deliver a PDF file with step-by-step instructions on how to wear a Kimono or Yukata to be used during the experience but also as a reference for you in the future.

On the day of the lesson, please prepare the Kimono or Yukata and all the items that you own. The basic lesson time is 30 minutes but it might be longer depending on if you own a Kimono or Yukata as wearing a Kimono involves more steps. It may also take some time to connect to Zoom, so please plan a total of 1 hour for the lesson.

If you do not have Kimono undergarments make sure to wear a tank top and some shorts for your lesson.

During the lesson, you will be led step by step through the process of wearing a Kimono or Yukata and tying an Obi belt in a simple manner. The instructor will give feedback and help you adjust the fit of your Kimono or Yukata as well as the Obi so it looks nice and fits well.

Feel free to ask if you have any doubts or something that you feel curious about.

At the end of the lesson, you will be wearing your Kimono or Yukata.

Nakanishi & Kato - Kimono Dressing - Profile

Makiko Kato

I have been a Kimono dresser for the past 5 years and know how to wear various types of Kimono. I love offering in-person dressing experiences to Japanese and foreign visitors as well as Kimono dressing classes for beginners in person and even online.

I believe the best thing about Kimono is its ability to connect people across generations and cultures. I will be happy to coordinate your Kimono, Obi, and various accessories depending on whether you want to look casual, fun, or cute.

Let’s enjoy Kimono together!
