Nishio is a small town located in the south-central part of Aichi Prefecture, well known for being one of the major production areas of Matcha green tea along with Uji and Kyoto. The quality of Nishio Matcha is highly recognized throughout the country and overseas.
This one day experience starts with a video introduction of the matcha production process. Your local guide will explain to you about the history of Nishio Matcha.
Then, you will head to the tea fields and you will be able to take photos while wearing the traditional tea outfit.
After tea field tour, you will take a brief factory tour to watch how the leaves are dried and prepared for tea-making. This will give you a good understanding of the process required to develop the harvested tea.
Once you finish the tea factory tour, you will make your matcha cup for drinking with the guidance of the local tour guide. Finally, you will be able to enjoy the green tea with sweets.

Krista and I took the Matcha Green Tea Tour and Matcha Making Experience on Tuesday, August 1. It was fantastic!
We were welcomed by our guide at the Aoi Sencha location in Nishio. Our tour started with a video about how matcha cultivation began in Nishio and Aoi Sencha in particular. Then we walked to the tea fields where we put on the tea picking outfit and took pictures in the fields. Upon our return to Aoi Sencha, we toured the matcha factory and learned many details about the matcha-making process. From there we walked up to the tasting room where we learned how to make matcha and the best way to enjoy drinking it.
We learned so much about matcha: how the tea leaves are selected, prepared and ground; how to make matcha and drink it; and the history of tea in Japan. Krista and I really enjoyed all about this experience. If you are a tea drinker, this experience is a must!
