The true spirit of Tokoname's master bonsai pot ceramists Elly and her team didn’t just organise a day tour to Nagoya and Tokoname’s pottery path. They revealed to us the true spirit of Japan. As a long-time bonsai enthusiast, I went to Japan for the 100th Kokufu-ten visit thinking, “Tokoname? Master ceramicists? Easy. A couple of messages and I’m in.” It was not. Elly, however, does magic with manners. She lined up timely 1:1 studio visits with bonsai pot masters, helped us communicate smoothly (and respectfully) in a world where nuance is everything, and then casually added a visit to Sawada, a traditional sake brewery that was equal parts craft, culture, and joy. It got so fun that one of the masters came along (thank you Kakuzan sensei). Which, in my book, is the highest possible rating. And for the record: Indeed, Nagoya is not boring. You just need someone who knows where to look - and how to unlock doors you didn’t even know existed. Thank you, Elly. Truly.

Go for the sake tour My wife and I had a great time hanging out with Elly during the sake tour. She took us to several places around town - would definitely recommend!

Historic Townscape and forest hike. What an awesome tour. Despite the light rain all day, Desiree, our guide made the hike memorable. She was well organised and all the transport went smoothly. Desiree was knowledgeable on the region history, and ensured we had plenty of time for photos and to explore the Historic Magome and Tsumago. The lunch was delicious. All in all a fabulous day and so invigorating being in the forest. Highly recommend this tour - the company name says it all Nagoya is not Boring.

Osu market A must see in Nagoya. The shrine is beautiful. Great shopping if that’s your thing or street food that checks all the boxes while in this city. Make sure to bring your translator and enjoy all the people. Sometimes on sundays there is a flee market in the area of the shrine. Interesting Japanese antiques.

Nagoya isn't boring, and has great food! Patricia was our expert tour guide through the Osu neighborhood for delectable bites and delightful bits of history along the way. Nagoya does indeed have a reputation for being boring, but this tour was anything but boring.

Nagoya for sure isn't boring! Sumo is awesome! We had such a great time on our Sumo tournament tour with Ellie in Nagoya. None of us knew anything about Sumo, but Ellie, who is a great guide, educated us all about it. Now we're all into watching Sumo matches on TV, and plan to attend another tournament in Nagoya next year
